Objectives | The principle objective of this project is the conservation of the information on these aspects of our folk arts which are unique characteristics of the Sri Lankan culture, with a view to making them a part and parcel of the lives of the people in future as well. |
Introduction | From time immemorial, population of Sri Lanka is represented by various ethnic groups such as Sinhalese, Tamils, Muslims, indigenous people, Ceylon kaffirs, Burgers and Malays. All these races have their own customs and cultural values. However, the rural based Sinhalese Buddhist is rich in cultural values and features.It is of paramount importance to explore and preserve the cultural aspects which are unique to each of these ethnic groups. The Ministry of Culture and Arts has taken steps to establish a Folk music Conservation Centre on 23rd September, 2010,with the assistance of the Royal Norwegian Government. Vision It provides a better and quality service in Folk Music to become a center of excellence. Mission To identity, conserve and promote the lyrics of tradition and rituals which have become part and parcel of the Sri Lankan Society, with a view to propagating them to suit with needs of the young generation. |
