Introduction | Pursuant to Decision No. 82-VN dated 3 January 1967 by the Ministry of the Interior on behalf of the government to establish the Association of Vietnam Folklorists. The Establishment Congress was held on 21 and 22 November 1966 at the Hanoi Revolution Museum, while American invaders raided in the north, where Hanoi is located. The establishment of the Association of Vietnam Folklorists became an important event that was commented on by western broadcastings as follows: “Northern communists gathered at a congress to establish an association with the functions of collecting and maintaining Vietnamese traditional cultural heritage. It means that they are sure of their victory, despite the American air force dropping bombs day and night (BBC, Reuters).” The existence of the Association of Vietnam folklorists makes the people aware of the importance and the value of folk art heritage that has been handed down by ancestors for thousands of years. After forty-eight years of establishment and development, the Association of Vietnam Folklorists had 1,113 members and 78 branches and provincial associations nationwide as of 2015. The Association has honored 445 people as folk artisans. |
