Following are the main objectives of the organization:

  • To promote the high ideals of UNESCO.
  • To foster culture of peace.
  • To increase awareness regarding the need to preserve tangible as well as intangible cultural heritage.
  • To strengthen a spirit of respect towards various cultures.
  • To stress the need for sustainable development
  • To promote the essentiality of human rights.
  • To increase awareness about HIV/AIDS and other health uses.
  • To develop fine arts as a medium of expressing the issues of contemporary society. To provide a platform for young people to express themselves, acquire knowledge and take initiatives so as to become responsible national and global citizens.

Chomolungma UNESCO Centre is a non-governmental, non-profit, independent organizations built on the high ideals of UNESCO. Even though, CUC was established at 1990, it was formally established as an institution in 1993 from the recommendation from the Nepal National Commission for UNESCO (NatCom), Ministry of Education, Government of Nepal. CUC is affiliated to Social Welfare Council (SWC), Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare, Government of National Federations of UNESCO clubs, centers and Associations of Nepal (NAFUCON).

The organization has been working in the field of art, cultural heritage, environment, HIV awareness, human rights and youth empowerment.

CUC organizes various art exhibitions and competitions on themes like heritage preservation, human rights and climate change. They manage an art gallery known as Galleria CUC where they exhibit photo excursions showcasing the Kiranti culture of Nepal. They are working in the field off cultural heritage preservation through their publications, exhibitions, seminars, lecture series and open forum discussion where they discuss on how can they preserve and promote the tangible as well as intangible culture heritage of the country.


Major Activities

They have been publishing annual calendar where each page has a unique photo describing unique culture, lifestyle and livelihood of various communities of people.

They advocate for the need for conservation of natural heritage and local eco-systems through their activities. Various awareness development programs are organized to educate people and society on the issue of sustainable consumption and waste management.

They publish various resource kits, research publications, photo catalogues, directories and other informative books relating to art. Culture, literature, environment, HIV/AIDS and human rights.
