Construction of the museum begun 31 August 1985, and it was inaugurated on 19 May 1990 on the occasion of President Ho Chi Minh’s one hundredth birthday. Renowned Russian architect Garon Isacovic designed the building.

The building is in the shape of a white lotus, which symbolizes President Ho Chi Minh’s simple noble life. It expresses the respect and deep gratitude of the Vietnamese people for their beloved leader and their determination to follow the way that Uncle Ho selected for Vietnam.

There are three main exhibitions at the Ho Chi Minh Museum. Their purposes are:

  • Introducing President Ho Chi Minh’s biography, from his childhood to the time he passed away and the Vietnamese people who implemented his will.
  • Introducing the lives, the fight, and the victory of the Vietnamese people.
  • Introducing world historical events from the late-nineteenth and twentieth century that had a deep impact on the life and career of President Ho Chi Minh and the Vietnamese revolution.

Ho Chi Minh is presented as a great culturist and as Vietnam’s national liberation hero, who was honored by UNESCO in November 1987 for his leadership as a person with a close relation with the nation.
