Preservation, promotion & development of Khudra Nrigosthi’s (indigenous community’s) culture in the Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh.


The Khudra Nrigosthir Sangskritik Institute was established in 1978 by order of the Ministry of Education (Culture and Sports) vide memo no. F.2/4976-(c)/500/7, date: 22-06-1976 with a view to carrying out research about the ways of life of the indigenous people and their customs and practices and highlighting the common elements that exist between the indigenous   people and the people of the other parts of the country, so that, they could be brought in the mainstream of the national and cultural life. Since then the Institute had been run as a project of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Development Board till it was taken over by the Ministry of Sports and Culture and brought under its administrative control in July 1981. At present the Institute is a department under Rangamati Hill District Council.

Major Activities
  1. Collecting information and data regarding related with area of the indigenous  their ways of life, history, social & cultural heritage, language, literature, music, dance, handicraft, religious, rites, rituals, customs, beliefs etc. to preserve and carrying out research on those subjects
  2. Organizing seminar, conference and exhibition that are related with area of indigenous community, their lives, life style, history, tradition and social and cultures  & publication of books and periodicals on those subject and making  documentary film and publications
  3. Relating the  lives of the indigenous communities to the national cultures,  organizing various national days and  festivals, to arrange  state programme by the local artist
  4. Organizing  inter-district cultural exchange programme
  5.  Organizing regional cultural  activities in  own and foreign country  by  government assistance
  6. Organizing traditional festivals, cultural programme and competitions  related with area where indigenous communities live
  7. Organizing training and development programme of language, literature,  music,  dance,  drama and  arts
  8. To sanction financial grant for cultural and drama organizations related with area and offer financial help  for economically weak artists
  9. Felicitate the proficient  artists by giving honorarium
  10. Give awards to the deserving members
  11. Collection of the traditional cultures related to area of indigenous   communities, collect those cultural materials and display  in the  Museum
  12. To preserve, promote and develop the cultural aspects of the indigenous communities and send recommendation for implementation of those plans and projects to the Government.
